Ruth was born in 1895 in Huntsham Rectory, Bampton, Devon. Her parents who were married in 1887 were Reverend Arthur R. Hudson (1857) Clergyman for Church of England and Mary F. (nee Birch) (1855). She had two brothers Frank (1891) and Geoffrey (1899), her Grandma Mary Hudson (1822) also lived in their home along with a servant Bertha Shackell (1879). Her mother later died and her father remarried in 1910 to Dorothy (1886) they lived in the Rectory with three servants.
War Years
Ruth enrolled in the Devon 78 VAD and was selected as a Nurse on 6 September 1918, she worked at Brabyns Hall Auxiliary Hospital and while there assisted in organising a recreational hall in the village for wounded soldiers. Then in September 1918 she nursed at Park Hall Military Hospital, Oswestry and she remained there until April 1919.
