About the Project
Qube in Oswestry has been awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting project, ‘Homefront Heroines’, to commemorate the centenary of WW1.
Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on the lives and stories of the women of Oswestry during the First World War. It will ensure the extraordinary stories of local women are not lost forever, and the impact the war had on women’s lives – which is still felt today, is recognized.
Our Volunteers
The project is being led by researcher Sarah Gathercole and has been generously supported by a team of volunteers. Their roles range from research, fact checking and website development to marketing and design.

Men on the Gates
Homefront Heroines follows a Men on the Gates project, which looked at the lives of the fallen soldiers listed on Oswestry’s First World War Memorial Gates at Cae Glas Park.
