Gladys was born in 1891 in Criggion. By 1911 she was acting as a housekeeper for her widowed father Hugh Derwas, who worked as a farmer.
War Years
Gladys joined the Shropshire Reserves and worked as a telephone operator at Park Hall Military Hospital Camp from June 1917 until the end of the war. She worked full time for a wage of 33s/6d per week.
Post War
Gladys married Samuel Bancroft (1882-1964) in 1948 and the two lived at 14 Victoria Rd., Oswestry. She died in 1982.
