1852- 1931
Born in Brentford, Middlesex 1852 Ellen was the daughter of Henry, a basket maker, and Rachel Bissel, who was baptised as an adult on January 29 1865.
William Ouzman was from Sleaford, Lincolnshire. He was 30 years old and Ellen 25 years old when they married in Peckham on 2 August 1877. By 1881 they were living at Brogyntyn Lodge, William was working as a coachman. They had a 1 year old son William born in Peckham and help in the home from a servant Elizabeth Morris, a 14 year old from Oswestry.
Ellen was a licensed victualler on the 1891 census at 1 Bailey Street. There are now three children William 11; Amy 8; Henry (1885-1890) also servant William Dyson, a nephew, working as a barman.
For the 1901 census Ellen was in Birmingham at 4 Court House, Summer Lane visiting her widowed mother Rachel and sisters Anne (38, single confectioner) and Emily (50, single restaurant waitress). Ellen lists herself as hotel keeper. Back at home in Oswestry William was hotel proprietor of the George Hotel, Bailey Head. At home was daughter Amy now a dressmaker and they have another son, George. Their niece Annie Bissell was working as a barmaid.
Ten years later they were Innkeepers at the Bell Inn, Church Street. William and Ellen Ouzman had been married for 35 years having had 7 children with only 2 still surviving. Niece Annie, now 40, was still working as their barmaid and they had a servant – Kate Hughes, aged 20 from Oswestry.
Her husband William Ouzman died in April 1915. Ellen Ouzman died on 21 April 1931. She left £2557 16s 1d.
