Sarah Emma Chandler Nee Evans was born in 1876 in Morton Oswestry. By the 1901 census she had married George, an ironmonger, and was living at Holly Place, Oswestry. She had two sons, George Albert and John Hiriam Henry and a daughter named Edith.
Sarah enrolled as a mid-wife on the 2nd of November. There are not many records of her time during the war but it can be assumed that she would have played a role as nurses of all professions where called up to serve and volunteer.
