Margaret was born in 1873 and lived at 1 Post Office Buildings, Church Street. She married Postman Oliver Hughes (b. 1874) at some point.
War Years
Mrs Hughes was enrolled on the Shropshire Reserves VAD on 3/4/1917 and selected as storekeeper on 18/6/17. She worked at Ardmillan Auxiliary Hospital as a storekeeper for three months on a 2 day a week basis. From 1/2/1918 to 1/9/1918 she was transferred to Fusehill War Hospital, Carlisle. Mrs Hughes was then briefly transferred to Chester Military Hospital where she worked from 10/10/1918 to 16/12/1918.
Unfortunately, it was reported that Mrs Hughes’ character and work were “very unsatisfactory” and so she was rejected for any further employment in the VAD.
Post War
In 1939 Mrs Hughes was living at 3 Castle St. with her husband, who had retired by that time.
