Margaret Anna Wells was born on 27 January 1871, where she lived with her family at the Greyhound Inn, St Martin’s, Oswestry.
At the age of 28 she married William Wells, 25, and they went on to have 7 children together. Their son Stanley was born in 1900, followed by Thomas in 1906; around this time the family were living at and running the Lion Inn at 52 Salop Road, Oswestry. Unfortunately 5 of their children had died by 1911.
That same year, Margaret, William and their two children went to live in Knockin with Margaret’s family. William worked as a licensed victualler until he passed away in June 1917, at the age of 44.
Margaret became head of the household running the Greyhound Inn with three of her relatives.
