Florence was the 3rd of 8 children born to George Humphreys and Annie Elizabeth Humphreys (nee Evans). In 1901 the family, then numbering 5 children, lived on Boot St., Whittington, but the mother, Annie, had died earlier in the year. Florence herself was not present at the family home and her address at that time is unknown.
Her brother, George Henry, a Nurseryman/Gardener, married and with 1 son, joined the army, went to France, and died of wounds on September 23rd 1918.
War Years
Florence was selected and enrolled as a Nurse in December 2017. As a VAD Nurse she would have been trained in Hygiene, First Aid, and Home Nursing before being given a suitable posting.
She was enrolled in the Shropshire Res. and on February 18th 1918 posted to the 1st Northern General Hospital in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
