Lilian Jane and Gertrude Mary were the daughters of William and Sarah Jane Day. William was originally from Bushey in Hertfordshire and his wife Sarah Jane was from Middleton, Oswestry. They had seven children born between 1879 and 1890: 2 sons; Thomas and William and 5 daughters; Edith Annie, Lilian Jane, Gertrude Mary, Florence Louise and Hilda Maude. Their father was at first a clerk but by 1911 he was a tax collector.
Lilian Jane is working as a teacher in 1901 although only 15 years old. In 1911 she is teaching at an elementary school and living at home on Castle Street with her parents.
Lilian married Edward Lester Derry in 1917. Edward, aged 23, worked as a railway clerk from Liverpool; he was boarding in Chirk in 1911. Lilian and Edward lived at 4 Stewart Road, Oswestry. Lilian died at Morda House Oswestry, leaving effects to her husband in the form of £1339 12s 11d.
Gertrude Mary trained to be a nurse working in Birkenhead Borough Hospital 1912 to 1915. She continued to work as a nurse. In 1928 she was listed on the Nursing Register as living a 2 Stewart Road, Oswestry.
Gertrude died at 2 Stewart Road Oswestry and was buried at Oswestry Cemetery on 6 May 1930 with her parents. Her father was buried on 12 November 1921 and her mother Sarah Jane of 2 Stewart Road on 11 March 1933.
